Books, books, and more books!

Hi parents!! I hope everyone had a great long weekend. We're back for another week of school tomorrow! I just have a few important pieces of information that I would like to pass along to everyone. We will be starting the Pizza Hut Book It! program tomorrow. The students will be bringing home a double sided sheet that they will have to fill in. The students will be required to read at least 15 minutes a night, for 5 nights. Of course, they can read more (that would be wonderful!). The students will need to put in a date and title of what they read. Since the papers are being sent out late, the students will only need to do this for three weeks for the month of October. All of the other months will be the four weeks. Once the students have completed their forms, they may bring them in for a slip for a FREE Personal Pan Pizza!!

The next thing I'd like to tell you about is the Scholastic Book Club ordering. I have set up an account for online ordering (the information below will tell more about that). I have not yet received the paper copies of the order forms. When I do, more information will be sent home. But, as of now, you can browse and shop for books online! And, for every order placed online, our class will get a coupon for $3.00 off of a book!! :)

Online Ordering Information
Web address: scholastic.com/bookclubs
Class Activation Code: JFQXG

Dear Parent,

Now it's easier than ever to find the perfect books for your child -- shop our NEW online Book Clubs Web site. Choose from a much-wider selection of books than in the printed flyer. Plus, you can send your orders directly to me online and use your credit card to pay.

Best of all, we earn a FREE book for the classroom library every time a parent places an order online.*

It's so simple! Here's how it works:
  • SIGN UP at www.scholastic.com/bookclubs. On the parent page, click the "Register" button in the "First Time Here?" section. Register for your own user name and password. When prompted, enter the one-time Class Activation Code shown above. This unique code ensures that your order is sent to me.
  • SELECT the books you'd like to order -- choose from thousands of titles -- many more than in our monthly flyers.
  • SEND your order to me online by the due date and your child's books will be delivered directly to my classroom.
Ordering online is fast, easy, and secure.

Of course, you can still order using the form from the printed flyer. But why not see for yourself how convenient it is to order online?

*Excludes eBooks.

If you have any questions, please call, email, or send a note in with your child. I hope that both of these services are useful and fun for your students and you! Talk to you soon!!

Thursday and the long weekend! :)

Hi! It was so nice getting to meet with some of the parents tonight! I enjoyed it! There was no homework tonight. However, the students should have brought home a new Focus Wall for next week's reading story. The unit tests are over and we will begin a new story next week. Just a heads up, the skill for next week is verbs. We will be discussing action verbs, helping verbs, and linking verbs. That's a lot for one week! But, I do plan on sending home a sheet each night for homework. This should hopefully give the students a little extra practice with language. Also, I'm going to try to somehow get the focus wall put on here for everyone to see. If not, I'll just type up the spelling and vocab words and put them in a post.

REMINDER!! There is NO school tomorrow (FRIDAY) or on MONDAY. Enjoy a long weekend! See you all back next week on Tuesday!! :)
If you need to contact me, please email or send a note home in with your child. You can try calling, but I'm having trouble receiving messages on the phone. Sorry for the inconvenience!
